College Magazine& Contents page

Magazine cover

- I designed the magazine cover on photo shop. The masthead is suitable for the audience in my view.

-The magazine is new so i put the issue number and the date at the top which is a normal magazine convention

-It does follow the conventions of a average magazine, masthead is there.. magazines usually have 3 or 4 colours and the magazine i designed does have 4 colours

- Magazine cover looks quite boring, and not very productive

-I dislike the fact that there is only one picture on the cover, it looks quite dull and boring

- Stories on the front cover looks slightly interesting(I THINK!)

- I designed the contents page on In design

- Contents page is quite simple, could be improved a lot!

- I should have taken more pictures so i could have added them on the contents page so it could have looked more interesting

- I quite dislike the font of the heading

- It could have have had been more descriptive

Research&planning(Practicing fonts)

Three different magazines, three different names. on photoshop i got a text box added the texts changed the fonts. I also added different effects which would be easily be associated  with the name of the magazine. 'Death Metal'- the effects i used on this text was a drop shadow effect, with outline and inner glow. I chose the colour red because that is associated with the title to some extend. 'Pop world'- I think the font does go with the title. I chose pink because that to me links with the title. 'Popcorn'- i chose the font because it links in with the title.

I am researching into semiotics. Semiotics is when the signs are being studied. It is how communication is passed to the audience. What is the significance for the sign?

The signs of that show that this is a college magazine. The textbooks, the person on the picture looks like a college student so the age is very much relevant to portray it to the audience that it is a college magazine. The font of the text is quite basic, perhaps this could be a sign to show that it is a college magazine.

College Magazine


The target audience for the magazine is an 16-20 year old college students at Hyde Clarendon. It's aimed at both males and females. As it is a college magazine its going to be quite education based. It will explain the different courses that is taken up by students. From A levels to Btec courses. Enrichment activities will be explained as it is the start of a new term, people will be signing up for different activities. So they would want to be informed about different activities there are. Interests such as Music may be involved. A reading recommendation list would be interesting. This magazine may interest people perhaps from working class background's who are coming to college for a better future. So words of encouragement and motivation from the college tutors may be involved in the magazine.

The College Magazine


The Masthead is quite a simple text in yellow,with a font that is readable. There's a picture of a student with books.. it looks as if she is studying. The person in the picture looks young. The date of when the magazine was issued is at the side. The stories seem to be based on education itself rather than college life. There's a story of a student under the heading 'meet Mutsa Mutembwa'- the clothes she is wearing seems represents a college student. There's a slugline of some sort on the picture however i can not read it because of the quality or the size of the picture. Overall this seems to be a magazine that is base on education, as the picture may insinuate that.

Research & Planning: Indesign tutorial

I used the Indesign software to create a film review. I got a film review of the internet, saved it as a word document. After opening up a A4 document on indesign i added 3 columns. I added the heading by creating a text box, then changing the font and size. I added the text by clicking on file place then uploaded the text. I did the same for the picture. I then changed the background by using a tool from the side. Added a gradient effect. Its much simpler to use than photoshop.

Research & Planning: Introduction to photoshop(skin correction tutorial)

I changed the background colour, by using some of the tools i enhanced the look of the skin by duplicating a layer and using a tool to make it opaque.. removed any blemishes. I learned how to change colour and how to add colour. I cut out the picture so i can paint the background.. still not much need to practice using photoshop!! NEED to Practice ALOT!

Introduction to photoshop(creating a document)

I had a go at creating a document, i changed the background, added text changed font etc. I was totally lost.. didn't know what i was doing so i played around with some tools and this was the result. not much but i'll get there!!

Introduction to photoshop(CD cover)

This was my first time using photoshop, it was a trial so as you can see i didn't do much. I added the text, changed the font, size etc.. added a drop shadow effect. I need to practice using photoshop and get use to it.
