Research & Planning: Draft of the music magazine

Research&planning.

This is a draft of the music magazine, i was just playing about with photoshop, and with the masthead and the layout.. added a few pictures from the internet to see what it would look like..the masthead even though i really like it is not bold, does not stand out and really isn't suitable for the magazine. I need something more effective.

Research & Planning: Masthead ideas

Research&planning
First masthead is quite neat and tidy. Arabic influenced design. I actually quite like this design however i think it does not suit the genre that I will be designing, as i have already done a draft. It looks quite plain and simple and it most certainly does not look effective.

The second masthead looks more suited to the genre, however it still looks slightly boring and quite plain. So like the first design i won't be using it.

The third design is not suitable for the genre of my magazine. It looks as if it is more suitable for a rock/punk magazine.

Research & Planning: Masthead ideas

Research&planning
Masthead ideas and design, i played around with the designs on photoshop, all of them seem pretty effective.. i decided to name the magazine 'Revolution' as revolution is a change in power Its use to refer to political changes. And one of my main aim in creating the magazine is too get the message of peace and solidarity across to the audience. 'Revolution' also refers to the original form of hip hop music, hip hop legends such as Tupac use to create music so they could put their message across.. Revoloution was also one of the most popular names to be chosen in the research that i had done.

Research & Planning:(Target Audience)

Research&planning

I chose Dr Dahlia Wasfi as a typical person that may take an interest in reading the magazine as she is a person that is heavily active in taking an interest in global issues such as war in Iraq, Afghanistan. She takes part in various talks.

The target audience for my magazine would be people aged 16-35, or perhaps older. It is targeted at both genders. As underground hip-hop artists would aim to educate people in society as a whole, the occupation of the person who reads the magazine isn't really an issue as it can range from a student who has a tight budget to a doctor, so wealth isn't a factor that needs to be taken into consideration. The people who would typically read this magazine would be people who take an interest in global issues, people that are anti-war, people who aim to contribute towards global peace. People that want to help make a change in the world. People who have protested against war in Iraq, Afghanistan. People who have protested against the injustice that is taking place in Palestine. There isn't a particular social class that i am aiming my magazine at as its quite difficult to categorize people into classes when as mentioned they range from students to doctors. To help make a difference in the world you don't have to be from a specific class. Underground hip-hop artists don't usually have 'gigs'- for example Lowkey will perform for an event which concern global issues, educating the public as a whole is the main aim.

The research conducted from my questionnaires shows that people don't really know the real meaning of 'hip-hop' as today's mainstream society has combined other genres with hip-hop. Most associated hip-hop with RnB music. So the research carried out really didn't help as much as i thought.

Research & Planning: data from Questionnaire

Research&planning I carried out some research. I handed out a few questionnaires to the people in my class. Most liked the name 'Revolution' so i decided to choose the name for my final plan!- Most of them associated red and blue with a hip-hop magazine..which was odd for me because personally i would have associated shading such as white, black and grey or dark colours in general.. as they are underground hip-hop artists, but then again some of them possibly have no idea of real hip-hop rather the idea of 50 cent jumps up in their minds! most of the people that took part on the research suggested that the stories that they will like to see on the magazine would be stories related to the artists, possibly their lives and what not! from the research people from the age group 16-18 will be reading the magazines however the majority pf the people that i selected for my research were from that age group. From the research the majority of the people that will be reading the magazine would be males, BUT then again most of the people that filled out the questionnaire were males so yeah...
